We were pleased to take part in the 2017 NBA Beef Expo on Thursday 18th May, where several members of the Dovecote Park livestock team travelled to Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire to represent the business at one of the industry's leading events.
Thursday 18th May saw several members of the
Dovecote Park Livestock team attend the annual National Beef Association Beef
Expo, held this year at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
Described as ‘the number one showcase for the British beef
sector’, the Beef Expo is one of the most important events on the calendar for
the British beef sector, and Dovecote Park were proud to be a part of it once
again.
We were among over 120 companies – including processors, manufacturers,
universities and traders - who exhibited at the event, along with
representatives from a number of breed societies.
The preceding evening saw 320 guests attend the Beef Industry
Dinner at Warwick Hall, a superb event which we were delighted to provide our own
Aberdeen Angus beef for.
This years dinner was chaired by John Bell, a
longstanding NBA member and chairman of the NBA Midlands Region, with
entertainment provided by renowned after-dinner speaker and lifelong farmer
Peter Slack.
We were pleased to see a number of our producers in
attendance, and were happy to provide our regular stand as a spot for producers
to relax and to catch up with us and one another.
This year’s Expo included working machinery demonstrations
from Harbro and seminars on topics ranging from liver fluke in cattle to the
future of beef genetics, with experts including nutritionists, veterinarians and
NBA officials present from across the agricultural industry.
For a great many attendees, the highlight of the Expo was
the Commercial Cattle Show, with over 110 animals entered, which was judged
this year by Colin Philips of the Batch, Herefordshire.
BE Williams took home
the overall Supreme Champion prize with Monty, a Limousin steer, whilst Cheeky
Girl, a Limousin cross heifer owned by JM and SM Rowlands took home both
Reserve Champion and Champion Heifer. The Future Farmer Challenge, now in its
third year, was won this year by Richard Gardiner and his students from Newton
Rigg College
Dovecote Park are pleased to have once again been part of a
successful Beef Expo – special thanks go to our Livestock team for their hard
work in organising and staffing our stand.
