Earlier this week, Josh from our Butchery Apprentice scheme had the opportunity to visit the Waitrose store in Rushden to learn all about life behind a busy meat counter.

Josh took time out from his daily production duties, and visited the store with our Butchery Apprenticeship Trainer, Dave Stringer.  Together they prepared a variety of different cuts across Beef, Lamb and Pork that were required for that days display.  Josh also spent time with the Waitrose Partners to learn about the store traceability process, and prepare and price individual steaks and joints from which customers could make their perfect choice.  

The day allowed Josh to develop his skills further, and will be included as part of the 'off the job' training element of his apprenticeship.  Following the success of this visit, more of our apprentices will undertake a similar experience in other stores.  A huge thank you to the Waitrose partners at Rushden for their time and for sharing the Waitrose way.
